Seattle's Best: Brandon Roy

One of WestSide Culture's favorite athletes has retired from the NBA. Seattle's own, Brandon Roy, has left the Portland Trailblazers after a 5 year career filled with memories and sadly, injuries.

Roy reps the WestSide in every way possible. An endorser of Nike, he was born in Seattle, Washington, where he attended Garfield High School and later the University of Washington. B-Roy starred as a teen at Nate McMillian's basketball camp in the 1990's when Nate was a player with the Seattle Supersonics. McMillian would later coach Roy with the Portland Trailblazers.

A repeated torcher of my favorite team, the Phoenix Suns, I developed incredible respect for B-Roy who was often hurt and played through the pain. Roy had knee trouble throughout his professional and collegiate career, starting with issues at the University of Washington.

As mentioned earlier, B-Roy used to destroy Phoenix every time he played the Suns, evidenced below in his career highlights.

Points: 52 on December 18, 2008, against the Phoenix Suns

Rebounds: 14 on February 21, 2008, against the now defunct Seattle SuperSonics (sorry Seatown).

Assists: 12 on February 29, 2008, and April 4, 2009, against the Los Angeles Lakers.

In 2006-2007, Roy won the NBA Rookie of the Year award. In 2008, 2009 and 2010 Roy represented the Western Conference in the All-Star game.
