West Coast Wednesday: NBA, NFL, Jimmer

Teach me how to Jimmer. Lead all Kings players last night in points w/ 17, off the bench. Just sayin'.

Now that we got that out of the way, on to the NBA docket for this evening.

Philadelphia 76ers v the Chris Paul-less New Orleans Hornets. Blah. Who cares?

G-State Warriors v San Antonio Spurs. Looking forward to this one. The Spurs are without Manu Ginobili. Dude broke his shooting hand. Not good. Is it me or is he hurt alot? I think Montae Ellis, Steph Curry and G-State can hang with them. Perhaps pull the upset?

Suns v Mavs. I like to call the Mavericks PHX East. It's mainly because they have former Suns players Shawn Marion (I miss the Matrix) and J. Kidd, and it has a little to do with the fact they have a Championship and the Suns do not. Good for them. That's the difference between having an owner who cares like Mark Cuban and one who doesn't do a damn thing in Robert Sarver.

SacTown Kings v Denver Nuggets. Teach me how to Jimmer.

Rockets v Clip Joint. Kevin McHale is coaching the Houston Rockets? When the F did that happen? Blake, CP3 and their Clip Joint friends are going to blaze up the Rockets and smoke 'em.

Don't look now, but Kobe had 37 and Bynum went for 20 points and 20 rebounds.

The Portland Trail Blazers beat the Thunder. I have a strong feeling the West may come down to these two teams. Let's monitor this, shall we? Harden (ASU) had 23 points, Durant 22, LaMarcus Aldridge went for 30. He's a beast.

Norv is staying put in SD. So is GM AJ Smith. I can tell you, Chargers fans are not happy. I actually think it's a good move. Teams are too quick to break things up these days. Give it one more shot. See what happens.

With that being said, former Chargers Drew Brees and Darren Sproles are now with the Saints. The Saints do play the Detroit Lions in an NFC Wild Card game tomorrow. (The Chargers, well... they did not make the playoffs).

Three AFC West teams finished the season at 8-8. Oakland, San Diego and Denver. Crazy. The division came down to tie-breakers and in a Google like algorithm, Denver won it. I guess that is why Norv and AJ are staying put. In that division, you just got to be a little bit better and you'll run away with it.

Denver and TT15 take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tough matchup for Tim Tebow. John Elway said Tebow just needs to, "pull the trigger." Might I start the official rumor: Tim Tebow will be an Indianapolis Colt next year. You heard it. Tebow to the Colts, Andrew Luck to the Denver Broncos. (I'll be posting an article this week about why this actually makes sense for both teams).

That's it. Whew. Take a breather. Lots happening on the West Coast.

Skipping SacTown: DMC is on the run

DeMarcus Cousins w/ Paul Westphal Courtesy NBAE/Getty Images

The Sacramento Kings were supposed to be building a solid nucleus. They were supposed to have 3 of the game's bright young stars. They were supposed to compete for the playoffs with a player supposedly named DeMarcus Cousins. Alas, they still have DMC. He's just not playing for them.

Tyreke Evans had 27 points on Monday, in the Kings game sans Cousins.Cousins is currently in a wild game of he said, he said with the SacTown Kings and head coach Paul Westphal. Westphal says Cousins demanded a trade. Cousins said he didn't. Either way this ish is distracting and dysfunctional to the team.

Run DMC has had off the court issues since his college days. Sadly the trend is continuing in SacTown. I hope he and the team can work this out, because Tyreke Evans, DeMarcus Cousins and Jimmer Fredette looks like a scary combination.

I'll throw something interesting out for WestSider's to chew on. Could DMC become a LA Laker? The LakeShow missed on the Dwight Howard sweepstakes, perhaps they can steal a top talent away from Sacramento.

Kobe, DMC, Meta World Peace (still cannot get over that) and Andrew Bynum would be a step in the right direction for the suddenly comical Lakers. I'm not including Pau Gasol as I figure he would be involved in the trade. It is a rumor I'm making up here, let's see if it's got legs.

NBA: Pre-Season Ends; 66 games begin

Courtesy NBAE/Getty Images

Today marks the final preseason games. I know preseason doesn't matter, yet this year something is a little different. Yes, there are only two games and yes they started them 3 months late. Still, they are exciting as each team plays one of it's biggest rivals, twice. They will face them again in the regular season, 4 times. Things are bound to get a bit chippy.

Out West, the following Pre-Season Matchups are taking place:

Houston Rockets v San Antonio Spurs (yuck and pooh)

Sacramento Kings v Oakland Warriors (Jimmer Time. Expect lots of scoring from both these teams this year)

Phoenix Suns v Denver Nuggets (Suns got worked in Game 1, let's see if they can respond tonight)

LA Lakers v LA Clippers (ClipJoint won both games.... look out Lakeshow)

Portland Trailblazers v Utah Jazz (Blazers sans B-Roy; retired, will be missed)

Dallas Mavericks v Oklahoma City Thunder (The Champs take on Durant and the up and coming Thunder)

And finally, get ready for a crazy, fast-paced, breakneck 66 game NBA season. I honestly believe anything can happen this year.

In SacTown, Jimmer is King

Tebow mania is sweeping the nation, although after the Denver Broncos lost to the New England Patriots, might a suggest a new candidate to replace him? (How quick we are to replace yesterday's heroes here at WestSide Culture). Many of you may have forgotten about Jimmer Fredette, the BYU player who won every single 2011 NCAA Player of the Year Award. Jimmer averaged a ho hum, 29 points per game last year as a senior with the Cougars.

And for his next act, Jimmer hopes to bring the Sacramento Kings back to relevance. The last time Sactown had anything to cheer about, Vlade was throwing no-look passes, Peja was raining threes, Mike Bibby was the hottest thing to come out of Arizona, Jason Williams was as smooth as White Chocolate and Chris Webber was the man. That was 8 years ago. How quickly we forget.

Now, it's Jimmer Time. Adding him to the mix with emerging super-stars DeMarcus Cousins and Tyreke Evans solidifies the much needed third option. Other role players who should come up big for the Kings are guards Francisco Garcia and Issiah Thomas (U-Dub Husky). The Jimmers Kings lost their first pre season game in Oakland at Oracle Arena to Bay Area rival, the G-State Warriors. G-State with Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry are always a threat. Jimmer played well though, hitting 4 of 6 from behind the 3 point line and finishing with 21 points.

Soon, the entire Pacific Division will be frustrated with trying to stop him. And the fans will be saying, "Teach me how to Jimmer."
